Mary Betty Ezell Evans Edge, affectionately known as Granma Betty to her friends and family, passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 80. Born on September 5, 1943, in Dublin, Georgia, Betty loved Jesus and was a beacon of love and faith throughout her life.
Betty was the cherished widow of Ralph Cleveland Edge, Sr., and was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jackson Robert Evans and Eunice Ethel Bedingfield Evans. She was also predeceased by her son, Ralph Cleveland Edge, Jr.; her great-grandson, Weston Holt Edge; and her siblings, Edward, Richard, Roy, Prentice, Grace, Gladys, Willaree, Albert, and Anita.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her son, Robert Dwayne Edge (Linda) of East Dublin. Betty's life was further enriched by her grandchildren: Derek Edge (Melanie), Misty Edge, Mitchell Edge (Logan), Kristen Cheek (Ben), Michael Edge (Sarah), and Cody Edge (Courtney). Her joy was multiplied with her great-grandchildren: Bryson Edge, Breeanna Edge, Grayson Edge, Kaitlyn Cheek, Madison Cheek, Olivia Edge, Bennett Edge, Kayleigh Edge, Hannah Edge, Matthew Edge, Jacob Edge, Aliyah Morgan, Drake Morgan, Westlyn Edge, and Charlie Blake Edge. The family tree continued to blossom with the arrival of her great-great-grandchildren: Braelynn Edge, Bentley Mullis, and Brylynn Edge. Betty is also fondly remembered by her brothers, David Evans (Sue), James Evans, and Ray Evans (Joan), and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Betty's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Antioch Baptist Church, and she later became a devoted member of Lighthouse Church of God. Her professional life included dedicated service at Oxford Shirt Factory, Shamrock Pants Factory, Bil Jo's, and Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation, from which she retired. However, her true calling was found in caring for others, which she fulfilled by operating Fun Time Daycare, where she touched the lives of many children and their families.
Her love for children extended beyond her daycare as she was always eager to help with the nursery at her church for as long as she was able. Betty's interests were a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She loved gardening, working in her yard, and riding the lawnmower. Cooking for her family was one of her greatest pleasures, especially when she made her renowned 14-layer chocolate cake—a treat that will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Betty's love for her family, children, and grandchildren was boundless, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them.
Betty's life was a testament to the values she held dear: she was loving, selfless, and faith-filled. Her unwavering commitment to her family, her church, and her community was evident to all who knew her.
Services for Mrs. Edge will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Lighthouse Church of God. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Bishop Monty Lasseter and Pastor Scotty Herndon will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Mike Edge, Micah “Bubba” Edge, Clint Edge, Rocky Edge, Joddie Edge, and Earl Sapp.
