Birney Lorne Phillips

Birney Lorne Phillips, age 84, currently of East Dublin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 23, 2022.

Mr. Phillips was born on February 18, 1938, in Duluth, Minnesota. He retired from the United States Navy after 22 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (HTCS). Birney worked at the INEL for 17 years as a Nuclear Engineer and was the State District 8 Commander for the VFW in Idaho from 1982-1983.

In addition to his service to his county, Mr. Phillips also served in ministry and was a retired ordained Baptist minister. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing, and music. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Evon Phillips and Agnes Matilda Saburn Phillips, and his first wife, Rosella F. Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Bryant Phillips; his children: William Charles Phillips (Divina) of Washington, Laura Wilson of Adrian, GA, and Rose Werner (Shannon) of Dublin, GA, Lorne Birney Phillips of Boise, Idaho, and Angelia Able of East Dublin; grandchildren: Micheal Phillips, Isaac Huffaker, Makayla Torregrosa (Austin), Doug Werner (Gloria), George Skurtu (Kyra), and Winnoa Skurtu; great-grandsons, Jacob Torregrosa and Ethan Werner, and sister, Caroline Warner.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Brewton Baptist Church. Rev. Kenny Greene will officiate. Mr. Phillips will lie in state from 3:00 PM until the service hour at the church.

Pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Interment will be held at the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Duluth, Minnesota at a later date.
