Bob Turner Obituary

Robbie Elliott “Bob” Turner, age 72, of Dublin, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020.

Bob was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late Roy and Janie Lou Turner. He later moved to Swainsboro, GA, returning to Savannah in Middle School. He joined the United States Army at age 17, and one year later transferred to the United States Navy. He served three tours in Vietnam from 1965 -1969 and was honorably discharged to San Diego. While in San Diego, Bob worked for Dunn Edwards for 20 years. He and his family returned to Georgia in 1984 and he worked for Pitney Bowes until he became self-employed with Turner Painting Contractors.

Mr. Turner was a member of the Moose Club, Exchange Club, and past PTO President at Trinity Christian School. He has been an active member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church for over 28 years, where he served on the usher committee, and as a member of the Discussion Sunday School Class and later the CIA Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a son, John Elliott Turner, and grandparents, Rollie Riner and Loree Edenfield Riner.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Diane Thompson Turner, of Dublin; son, Justin Turner, of Dublin; daughter, Christi Garrett Gibson, of Richmond Hill, GA; granddaughter, Courtni Gibson, of Tucson, AZ; grandson, Kip Gibson, of Richmond Hill, GA; brothers, William Turner, of Greenwood, SC, Ronnie Turner (Margaret), of Cochran, Glenn Turner, of Swainsboro, Rollie Turner (Gail), of Summertown, GA, and Virgil Turner, of Swainsboro; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Russell Collins, of Swainsboro, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Mr. Turner will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 5, 2020, on the front lawn of Pine Forest United Methodist Church. Dr. Joel Dent will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until the service hour at the church.

The family requests in lieu of flowers and donations are made in Bob’s memory to Pine Forest UMC Memorial Fund, 400 Woods Avenue, Dublin, GA 31021. Townsend Brothers Funeral Home and Staff respectfully ask all in attendance to follow social distancing guidelines.
