Cecil Clinton Willis, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, at the age of 94 in his hometown of Dublin, Georgia. Born on September 12, 1929, to the late Edgar and Irene Rowe Willis, Cecil was the youngest of ten siblings, all of whom predeceased him: Burke Willis, Ovilla Willis, Owen Willis, Eunice Willis Purvis, Myrtle Willis Amerson, Hulan Hansford Willis, Doyle Willis, Edgar Wade Willis, George Willis, and Mildred Willis Bracewell.
Cecil's life was one of service and dedication. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, a time that instilled in him a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Cecil returned to Dublin, where he built a career at JP Stevens and later at Air South Commuter Airlines. He retired from the Federal Employees Credit Union where he worked many dedicated years as a manager. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his faith and community, as evidenced by his active involvement in the Rock Springs Baptist Church, particularly within the Men's Brotherhood.
Cecil's legacy is carried on by his loving daughters, Cecilia Wilson and her husband Craig, and Marnie Warnock and her husband Danny. He was a cherished grandfather to Michael Wilson and his wife Renae, David Wilson and his wife Charity, Anna Stone and her husband Jeremy, Katie Sutton, and Josh Warnock and his wife Sarah, and to his nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a very special friend of 43 years, Sandra Odom, as well as several nieces and nephews.
An adventurous soul, Cecil loved to travel and explore all parts of the world. Equally at home was his love for working with his hands, whether it was tending to his yard with meticulous care or fixing anything that needed repair. Cecil's ability to solve problems and create with his hands was a testament to his handy and resourceful nature.
Those who knew Cecil would describe him as a loving man who embraced life with open arms. His adventurous spirit, handiness, and loving nature were the hallmarks of his character. He approached life with a sense of wonder and a willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. His presence was a source of stability and love for his family, and his influence will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Cecil’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Wyatt will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church, 2075 Rock Springs Rd., Dublin, GA 31021.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Georgia Hospice Care and the staff and residents of Dublin Square for their kindness, compassion, and love shown during this difficult time.
