Mr. Beasley was born in Dublin, Ga., on January 23, 1950, however, he grew up during his early years in Dexter. He was a 1968 Graduate of Dublin High School and later a Graduate of the University of South Carolina. Chan was a standout football player at Dublin High School and later attended the University of South Carolina on a football scholarship. During his senior year in high school, Chan was awarded the State Offensive Player of the year award. Several years ago Chan was honored by The Dublin Touchdown Club as one of their first members of the Dublin High Football Hall Of Fame. Chan loved football, and for the most part, enjoyed pulling for his beloved Gamecocks and whoever was playing Georgia on any given week.
After returning home from college, Chan worked as a tax assessor for the Laurens County Tax Assessors Office. He was a former owner of Superior Laundry and Dry Cleaners, Superior Lift Trucks, and later in life, he was an Independent agent/owner for Allstate Insurance Agency. He obtained his pilot’s license earlier in his life and enjoyed flying whenever he had the chance. Chan was a former Member of the Dublin Rotary Club and he loved to hunt, and fish, and was an avid golfer. He was always the life of the party and at times was known to be able to hold his own while on the dance floor.
Chan grew up in a Christian household and was a former member of both Pine Forest United Methodist Church and Jefferson Street Baptist Church. He was extremely proud of his family, in particular, his 4 grandkids, and would often attend their sporting events when his health would allow. He spent the last few years of his life at The Villas at Bellevue, where he was cared for with lots of love and passion. The caregivers there were phenomenal in taking care of him over the years. Special thanks to Gwen Arline and Bridgett Charleston, special caregivers, for looking after our dad over the years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Beasley; parents, Chandler and Bettye Beasley, and brother, Danny Beasley.
Survivors include his children, Maury Beasley (Misty) and Gina Dee Barker (Michael); grandchildren: Ease Barker, Suzanna Barker, Braelee Beasley, and Braceton Beasley; brothers, Scott Beasley (Lynn) and Willie Beasley (Jackie) and several nieces and nephews.
