Claire Smith Wilkes, age 91 of Dublin went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2024.
Mrs. Wilkes was born September 4, 1932 in Dublin, Georgia to Roy and Lelia Muns Smith. She is retired from Fairview Park Hospital where she was a Medical Records Transcriptionist for 20 years. She was an active member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her cooking with family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and sister. Mrs. Wilkes in predeceased by her husband, Larry H. Wilkes, Sr., sister, Betty Jean Minter, and sister, Clara S. Currie.
She is survived by her five children – Larry Herman Wilkes, Jr. (Donna) of Dublin, Doyce Smith of Dublin, Lydia Evans (Brent) of Dublin, and Amelia Woods of Dublin, Brenda Harriss of Wilmington, NC; twelve grandchildren – Lauri Bullen (Jason) of Dudley, Matthew Wilkes (Robbie) of Dudley, Justin Smith (Nicole) of Rockledge, Jenna Claire Riddle (Tyler) of Tifton, Rhett Evans (Shannon) of Macon, Tara Evans Ogletree (Jeremy) of Dublin, Roxanne Shirley (Justin) of Dublin, Benjamin Woods (Shelbi) of Canton, and Joshua Woods of Dublin, Lawrence Wolfe, Jr. (Angela N.), Elizabeth Hester, and John Harriss (Morgan) of Wilmington, NC; seventeen great-grandchildren – Mckinley Wilkes, Hilton Wilkes, Sam Bullen, and Owen Bullen of Dudley, Zane Shirley, Hudson Shirley, Charlie-Sue Ogletree, and Maddie-Claire Ogletree of Dublin, Carson Smith, Reese Smith of Rockledge, Stella Reese Evans of Macon, Collins Riddle and Nellie Riddle of Tifton, Anna Wolfe, Melody Wolfe, Caleb Sinson, and Mary Elizabeth Hester, of Wilmington, NC, and one sister – Joyce Brack of Bonaire.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Jefferson Street Baptist Church with services immediately following on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Burial will follow at Northview Cemetery. Rev. David Currie and Rev. Kyle Giddens will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Wilkes, Justin Smith, Rhett Evans, Benjamin Woods, Joshua Woods, Zane Shirley, Hudson Shirley, and Carson Smith.
