David K. Rowe

David K. Rowe, age 87, a resident of St. Augustine, FL, and formerly of Flowery Branch, Hall County, Georgia, died September 30, 2021. Graveside services will be held at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens County, Dublin, GA at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

He was born in Laurens County, Dublin, GA, on December 17, 1933, and was the youngest of nine children of the late George and Mittie Rowe, lifetime residents of Laurens County. David graduated from Lowery High School in 1950 and received a Bachelor of Science degree, from Jacksonville University, Jacksonville, FL.

Following graduation, he worked in Pharmaceutical sales, then as a Statistician for the State of Florida. He then accepted a position with the Department of Defense in Atlanta, GA, later transferring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1966 where he served until his retirement in 1994. While at CDC David served for many years as the Director of Procurement and Grants Office and Director of the Management Analysis Office.

While working he was a member of the National Contract Management Association and received a  lifetime certification as a Contract Manager, a charter life member of the National Assistance Management Association, and served on the board of Atlanta  Association of Federal Executives. Following retirement, he served as a trustee in the GA Federal Military Retiree Coalition and as an officer in the CDC chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

David was baptized at Rock Springs Baptist Church in 1946 and at the time of his death was a member of Buford First United Methodist Church until his death. He was a Master Mason of Red Hill Lodge #533 F&AM in Laurens County achieving Emeritus status in a 50-year award ceremony from the Grand Lodge of Georgia in 2007 and was a Shriner in the Yaarab Temple of Atlanta.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Smelt Rowe, daughter Cynthia R. Turnage, son-in-law Michael S. Turnage, and granddaughter Alexandra Nicole Turnage, of Atlantic Beach, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
