Dolan Woods Obituary

Mr. Dolan Edward Woods, Sr. passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025. He was 77 years young.

He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Woods; his mother, Betty Jo Cheek; step-father, Clay Cheek, and brothers, John L. Woods Jr. and Kenneth Woods.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Martha Woods, his two sons, Dolan (Jennifer) Woods, Jr, of Dublin, GA and Clay (Francesca) Woods of Cadwell, GA. He had 6 grandkids, Taylor Davis, Stone (Angel) Woods, Austin (Ivy) Woods, Dara Woods, Memphis Woods, and Miles Woods. He had 6 great-grandkids and an abundance of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Mr. Woods is also survived by his brother, Anthony (Kathy) Woods, and sisters, Connie (Dale) Morris, and Mary Jo Cheek.

Mr. Woods was born April 1, 1948, in Jesup, GA. Raised in Richmond Hill, GA, Dolan later made his home in Dublin, GA, where he built a life rooted in faith, family, and service.

Dolan served honorably as a Special Forces Airborne Ranger (Green Beret) in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He dedicated 30 years to Southeast Paper before retiring in 2009. His commitment to helping others continued through his volunteer work at Teen Challenge of Dublin, GA, where he counseled hundreds of men in recovery. Dolan was a faithful member of Dexter Assembly of God. He has touched countless lives with his unwavering devotion to the Lord.

Husband, Father, Pappy, Brother... He was all of these and so much more. He loved to golf and fish. He loved long discussions about life and the afterlife. His family will remember him as being playful and hard-headed and he knew it. He loved to talk about how wonderful God is and how He can move mountains. His faith was immeasurable. Mr. Woods was a born-again Christian and lived his faith with passion and purpose, having a desire to share the gospel through every avenue possible. Dolan's love for his family knew no bounds. His legacy of love, faith, and selfless service will continue to inspire those blessed to have known him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Dolan's funeral will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the Mary Whitaker Townsend Memorial Chapel at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, GA .Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the service hour on Friday at the funeral home.
