John Donald “Don” Tanner, age 82, of Dublin, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.
Mr. Tanner was born April 18, 1937 in Montgomery County to the late Fred and Mabel Coleman Tanner. He attended Condor High School and South Georgia Technical College. Don retired from J.P. Stevens & Co./Forstmann & Co. after 35 years. After retirement, he taught at the Heart of Georgia Technical College for several years. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church, where he had been active in Sunday School, Choir, Finance, Visitation, and others.
Don enjoyed playing golf and played as often as he was able. He was an avid supporter of Dublin Irish Football. He was a member of the Dublin Touchdown Club and attended every Dublin Irish football game, both home and away for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Tanner.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jananne Joyner Tanner; children, Greg Tanner, Brent Tanner, Brad and April Tanner, and Julie and Mike Ellington, all of Dublin; grandchildren, Brian and Ansley Ellington, of Istanbul, Turkey; Jake and Ashley Ellington, Dalton Tanner, and Caleb Tanner, all of Dublin; great-grandchild, Chap Tanner Ellington, of Istanbul, Turkey; sisters, Enid Beall (Earl), and Fay Tanner, both of Dublin; mother-in-law, Sarah Reynolds Joyner, of Perkins, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Tanner will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Springdale Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Paul Wilkes and Rev. Geoff Grimes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until funeral hour at the church on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Browning, Caleb Tanner, Dalton Tanner, Jake Ellington, Forrest Kilgo, and Matt Slaughter.
