Donald Alligood Obituary

Donald A. Alligood, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in Dudley, Georgia, at the age of 82. Born on March 10, 1943, in Rentz, Georgia, to Ovid and Geneva Baggett Alligood, Donald grew up in a close-knit family, which laid the foundation for the loving and dedicated man he would become. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harold Alligood, and brother-in-law, Hugh Williamson, all of whom he held dear throughout his life. After completing high school, Donald began his working career at J.P. Stevens & Company before joining Oconee Electric Membership Corporation in 1964. His hard work and dedication to his craft were evident as he rose through the ranks to become a respected line foreman, retiring in 2000 after 36 years of service. In 1973, Donald's selflessness was recognized when he received the Certificate of Merit for Selfless and Humane Action from the American Red Cross, an honor that spoke volumes about his character. After retirement, he enjoyed working for Custom Pallets until his recent illness. Donald's commitment to his community extended beyond his professional life. He was an active member of Dudley Baptist Church, where he served as a faithful usher and as Treasurer of the Duggan Weaver Sunday School class. His faith and dedication to service were pillars of his life and inspired those around him. An avid gardener, Donald found peace and contentment in the simple pleasures of plowing the fields and mowing the lawn. His passion for the outdoors was matched by his love for sports. He coached his sons in recreational baseball and never missed a game. Whether it was their high school or college games, he was always there to support them, rain or shine. This unwavering support continued with his grandchildren, as he was a constant presence at their sporting events, cheering them on with pride and joy. Donald, a devoted family man, is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Mary Kathryn Alligood of Dudley; two sons, Steven (Patricia) Alligood and Jeffery (Juli) Alligood both of Dublin; five grandchildren, Matthew (Mary Lauren) Alligood, Daniel Alligood, Katherine (Dustin) Alligood Gay, Maddie-Grace Alligood, and Sarah Elizabeth Alligood; as well as his great-grandchildren, Asher Alligood, Sadie Jane Alligood, SaraBeth Gay, Liza Gay and soon-to-be great-grandson, "Baby Gay"; a sister, Doris A. Williamson; a sister-in-law, Jackie Alligood; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 1, 2025 at Dublin Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jeffery Alligood and Mr. Steven Alligood officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Dublin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Gideons International. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Family Hospice for making his last days comfortable.
