Doris Nell (Cofer) Childers

Doris Nell Cofer Childers, age 92, of Dublin, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

Ms. Childers was born in Perry, Georgia, on June 22, 1930, to the late Charles Thomas Cofer, Sr., and the late Ruby Douglas Cofer. She graduated from Macon Vocational School in 1950 and the Macon Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She was raised in Macon but lived most of her life in Dublin. She was a retired Registered Nurse who worked at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center from August 1956 until July 1989. She was also the secretary for the local NARF, Shamrock Chapter 1085.

Doris was a member of the East Dublin Resurrection Assembly of God and a past member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church and Vineville Baptist Church in Macon.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Thomas Cofer, Jr., and Douglas Lamar Cofer; sisters, Avelyn Ferrell, Edna Wright, Dorothy Lillian Cofer, and great-grandson, Elijah Mark Waters.

Survivors include her son, Frank Childers, and his wife Dorothy, of Dublin; three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Wes Pinkley will officiate.
