Dorris Register Obituary

Dorris Grant Register, 102 of Rentz, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2024.

The funeral service will be held at Rentz Baptist Church on Sunday, July 28th at 2:00 PM. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Rentz Baptist Church Senior Minister Tom Vann will preside, with Reverend Grady Mimbs delivering the eulogy. Burial/Interment will follow at Rentz Cemetery. Townsend Brothers Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Dorris was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to C. W. and Carrie Souter Grant on January 24, 1922. She graduated from Ideal High in 1939 and was the salutatorian of her class. After high school, she graduated from Georgia-Alabama Business College. She worked at Robins Air Force Base during World War II, followed by J. A. Jones Construction Co. in Brunswick, Georgia. She was one of the first employees of Progressive Rural Telephone Cooperative in Rentz, Georgia. She spent many years working with her husband, G. P. (Pee Wee) Register, helping to run The Rentz Bus Line and Register’s Radio/TV Sales and Service, and serving as the treasurer for the Rentz Methodist Church. She was devoted to the people and community of Rentz, Georgia, where she lived for 66 years.

Dorris is preceded by her husband, G. P. Register, her mother, Carrie Souter Warren, her sister, Elaine Grant Bone, and her brother, Charles Monroe Grant.

Dorris is survived by her sons Charles Grant Register and William Michael “Mickey” Register; Grant’s wife, June Morris; Grant and June’s daughter and son-in-law, Casey Ella Register and Benjamin Charles Andrews; and their daughter, Dorris’s great-granddaughter, Ella Victoria Andrews, and great-grandson, Brooks Charles Andrews;  Mickey’s wife, Christine Register, and his son Christopher Register, and daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Register Medkeff and Zack Medkeff; and their children, Dorris’s great-grandchildren, Chloe Medkeff and Jackson Medkeff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Rentz Baptist Church or Agape Hospice Care of Clark County Georgia.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Rentz community for their many years of support, as well as to The Landing Assisted Living Facility and Agape Hospice Care.
