Eddy Schrader, Jr. Obituary

SSGT, Edward (Eddy) James Schrader, Jr., passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Schrader Sr. (Swainsboro), and brother, Devella Mitchell Schrader (Athens). He is survived by his beloved wife, Tracy Leigh Schrader (Dublin), mother, Dorothy Schrader Smith (Dublin), sister, Lottie Schrader Rizzardi (Dublin), and loving children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

Eddy was a graduate of Swainsboro High School, Class of 1976. Following graduation, he pursued and devoted 8 years of service to the United States Air Force, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged with a highly decorated Suit of Blue. His top military accomplishments included: selection to complete NCO Academy, Instructor, and Supervisor of Communications-Computer Systems, Certified Skilled Electrician, Small Arms Expert Rifle/Pistol Ribbon, in addition to several Medals of Honor. Eddy was also a member of the local VFW Chapter in Dublin.  

His noble devotion to his country led Eddy to become a dedicated employee of the Department of Labor as a Veterans Representative. 

Eddy’s love of his community inspired him to serve as President of the Shillelagh on the Dublin-Laurens County St. Patrick’s Festival Committee of Dublin, Ga. and was awarded, 2019 Ambassador of the Year, for Dublin- Laurens Chamber of Commerce. 

Eddy will be missed by all of his family and friends. 

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2020, at Liberty Church in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until the funeral hour at the church. Pastor Chris Dixon and Pastor Heath Taylor will officiate. Eddy will be laid to rest in a private burial at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.

Pallbearers will be members of the VFW Casket Bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Stuart Bowen, Allen Scarbrough, Richard Daniels, Mike Braswell, Chris Dixon, Heath Taylor, and Mike Hutcheson.

In lieu of flowers, Eddy requested donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Townsend Brothers Funeral Home and Staff respectfully ask all in attendance to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.
