Edgar Blanchett Obituary

Edgar Ray Blanchett, 76, of Dublin, entered into the Joy of the Lord on Saturday, May 8, 2021, while surrounded by his wife and children.

Mr. Blanchett was born in White Sulphur Springs, VA but moved to Dublin as a teenager, and for more than 60 years has called Dublin his home. He was a 1962 honor graduate of Dublin High School where he was part of the DHS Fighting Irish football team.  He later completed an Associate of Business degree at Middle Georgia College in Cochran and became a member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.

In 1963 he married his high school sweetheart, Fredia Fuqua. He doted on his wife and loved her faithfully and together they have raised their family and traveled life’s peaks and valleys with grace and strength.

He spent his career in sales of dyes and chemicals and developed strong relationships with many businesses across the state. He retired in 2012 after building a successful business – DyeColors – which continues to serve customers throughout Middle Georgia.

Mr. Blanchett, an avid and accomplished golfer, was a long-time member and former director of the Green Acres Golf and Recreation Club.  He was featured in Paul Harvey’s “The Rest of the Story” for accomplishing the rare feat of 2 holes-in-one during a single round of golf. He also competed in golf’s World Amateur Handicap Championship.   He enjoyed puzzles of all kinds and growing roses.  Mr. Blanchett also enjoyed listening to music, especially gospel, and imparted that passion to his children. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling with his family and friends.

Mr. Blanchett’s most important contribution to his family and his community, however, was evidenced through his deep and personal faith in Jesus. He was a long-standing member of Olivet Baptist Church where he faithfully taught the Joy Sunday School Class for many years.  His knowledge of scripture was impressive, and he studied his Bible diligently to share with those he taught. He served as a deacon and leader in the church and lived out his faith through example. He was an honest and dependable man, whose word was his bond.  He could be trusted in both his business and personal relationships to be generous and fair.

Mr. Blanchett is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Fannie Blanchett.  He is survived by: his wife, Fredia Fuqua Blanchett, his daughters-Lee Pohto (David) of Dublin & Lara Carlton (Ernie) of Macon, and his son-Lane Blanchett (Jaimee) of Dublin, as well as his sister, Phyllis Walters (Harold) of Anderson, SC, and brother, Herschell Blanchett (Annelle) of Tallahassee, FL. He was affectionately known as PopPop to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Thomas Pohto, Caroline Pohto Russo, Victoria Pohto, Jennifer Roberts, Rachel Blanchett, Wesley Blanchett, Caleb Blanchett, Claire Blanchett, Sumner Carlton, Alan Carlton, Phillip Carlton, Wyatt Roberts, Sammy Roberts, and Ashlyn Reeb.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at 11 am, at Olivet Baptist Church, with Pastor David Pohto officiating.  The body will lie in state prior to the service. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday evening, May 11 at the church from 6-8 pm.
