Edward W. Cambra, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024, in Dublin, Georgia, at the age of 94. Born on March 11, 1929, in Clymer, Pennsylvania, Edward's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and the love of his family.
Edward's life was one of unwavering commitment to his country and his loved ones. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served with honor and distinction in Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and various bases across the United States. His 20-year military career culminated in his retirement as a non-commissioned officer, a testament to his leadership and dedication.
Following his military service, Edward embarked on a new chapter, working for Frontier Airlines and Continental Airlines. His remarkable work ethic and knowledge of aviation led to a successful 20-year second career in the airline industry. Utilizing his veterans' benefits, he pursued further education at the Colorado School of Trades, which enabled him to excel in his post-military endeavors.
Edward's wisdom, handiness, and passionate nature were evident in all aspects of his life, especially in retirement. He found joy in working with his hands and was never happier than when he was immersed in a project. His ability to fix and create was not only a pastime but a skill that he generously shared with those around him.
Family was the cornerstone of Edward's world. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Cambra of East Dublin, GA; his sons, Edward M. Cambra of Zionsville, IN, and Richard Cambra (Liz) of Plano, TX; his granddaughters, Jennifer Cambra (Delany) of Sherman, TX, and Stefany Cambra (Spencer) of Plano, TX; and his step-grandsons, Michael Cox (Ashley) of Plano, TX, and Kenneth Cox (Kathryne) of Tacoma, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Mary Belunis Cambra, and his first wife, Josefine Cambra.
Edward's commitment to fellowship and community was exemplified through his active involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. Attending the meetings and events was a source of comfort and camaraderie to him and his fellow veterans, with whom he loved to spend time and share experiences.
Those who knew Edward will remember him as a man of great character and warmth. His wisdom guided many, his handiness solved countless problems, and his passion for life inspired those around him. Edward's legacy is one of love, service, and the indelible impact he left on the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Cambra will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the East Dublin Dayspring Worship Center. Pastor Cole Morris will officiate.
