Edward Virgil Ellington, Jr., 87, of Dublin, passed away on June 17, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born to the late Edward Virgil Ellington, Sr., and the late Elerie Clifton Ellington on January 17, 1937, in Twin City, Georgia. He graduated from Emmanuel County Institute in 1955.
He is survived by his daughter, Lili "Sue" Ellington Bozeman (Raphael "Skip”); son, Edward "Zeke” Virgil Ellington, III (Rebecca); son-in-law, Andrew Craig Silas; grandchildren, Jeremy Cole Silas, Ashley Anna Silas Blair (Markus), Sydney Amelia Bozeman, Blake Anthony Bozeman, Charles Edward Ellington, and Lylah Jane Ellington; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn McKenzie Blair and Hannah Grace Blair; brother, Joseph Phillip Ellington (Barbara).
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lillie Chambers Ellington; his daughter, Heather O'Joy Jones Silas; and brother, Randall “Randy” Ellington. He began his career at Cochran Provision and became a meat inspector with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Also, he was a general contractor and built many homes for families in the Laurens County area. He was a devoted and faithful member of Dudley Wesleyan Church, formerly Dudley United Methodist Church where he served as pastor from June 1995 to June 2014. He was honored with the title of Pastor Emeritus at Dudley Wesleyan Church in October 2023.
Funeral services for Edward Virgil Ellington, Jr. will be held at Dudley Wesleyan Church on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11 AM with burial to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Reverend Tommy Veal and Reverend Brad Sanders will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Atkinson, Nicholas Atkinson, Bill Cook, Bobby Kight, Marty Lybrand, and Brian Sheppard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gideon International or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
