Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Esta Sterling, age 83, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday August 11, 2024 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Haywood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Sterling was born September 4, 1940 in Rockledge, Georgia; she was preceded in death by her parents, the late Felton Chance and Esta Spivey Chance; her husband, Phillip Sterling; a brother, Larry Chance and a sister, Vangel Shiver. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Nan Linder Sunday School class. While at Bethlehem, she started the Children’s Church Puppet Ministry and also used that ministry to entertain the youth at various other churches and birthday parties. She also performed at many places as a Minnie Pearl impersonator. She loved spreading the word of Jesus, cooking and carrying food to shut-in’s and the sick. She was an excellent cook but she was known mostly for her delicious chicken & dumplings and caramel cake. Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Sterling passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024.
She is survived by her sons, Ricky Sterling of East Dublin and Jimmy (Regina) Sterling of Adrian; her grandchildren, Chad Sterling, Adam Sterling, Cayce (Jason) Hendricks and Blake (Courtney) Sterling and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 Sunday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Veal, Kevin Tanner, Wayne Wilkes, Don Baggett, Leslie Henderson and Ronnie Wilkes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Clay, Blandon Mosely, Glenn Fordham and the Nan Linder Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions, in memory of Ellen, be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, PO Box 13190, East Dublin, Georgia 31027.
