Emory Gordon Snell, Sr., a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, in Dublin, GA, at the age of 94. Born on June 14, 1930, in Wrightsville, GA, to the late Earnest D. Snell and Annie Opal Preston Snell, Emory's life was a testament to the values of dedication and service.
Emory's journey began in the heart of Johnson County, where he grew up surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude Alexander Snell, William W. Snell, and Harry Snell, as well as his stepson, Timothy Newman.
After a distinguished career in the United States Army, Emory retired with honors and continued to serve his community through his work at J.P. Stevens and later Proctor & Gamble. His commitment to excellence and his strong work ethic were evident to all who knew him.
Known for his friendly demeanor and loving nature, Emory was the epitome of a man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed the simple pleasure of visiting and talking with people. His ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and his genuine interest in the lives of others will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Emory's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Madie Walker Snell, and his sons, Emory G. Snell, Jr. (Belinda) of Worchester, MA, and Brian Snell (Billie Kay) of Gadsden, AL. His brothers, Robert Snell of Augusta, GA, and Tommy K. Snell (Marilyn) of Beach Island, SC, along with several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, also survive him.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville, GA. Rev. Curtis Sumner will officiate.
