Frances Harrelson Obituary

Frances G. Harrelson passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020. A private graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, May 4, 2020 in Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Harrelson was born on May 4, 1928 in Wheeler County. She was the daughter of the late Harvey R. Gilder and Florence Causey Gilder. She married the late Eugene Harrelson in Lawton, Oklahoma at the First Baptist Church on June 1, 1952.

She was a graduate from Cedar Grove high school. She received an associate degree from the Macon School of Nursing in 1947. She went on to do post-graduate work in obstetrics in Chicago. She worked in labor and delivery at Fairview Park Hospital. Later in life she continued her love for her profession by teaching childbirth classes at the hospital.

She was an active member of Union Springs Baptist Church where she played piano and taught Sunday School.

Always one to seek a new challenge, Frances went back to school at age 74 to study at the Dublin Campus. She earned not only a degree, but also membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

She is survived by her son, Greg Harrelson, her daughter, Gilda Bisbee, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Harrelson was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, and her oldest son, Clint.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter.
