Gregory Clark Obituary

Gregory Thompson Clark, age 56, of Cedar Grove, went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2020. He died at the home of his sister, Ora Clark, after a year and a half battle with cancer.

Greg was born on July 18, 1963 in Laurens County, Georgia to Garland Thompson Clark and Bennie Lee Tapley Clark. He graduated from West Laurens High School in 1981. He won his class’ good citizenship award. After graduation he began farming the family farm in Cedar Grove, Georgia. He won soil conservationists of the year in Laurens County, GA through NRCS organization.  In 1994 he moved to Tucker, Georgia where he began a successful career in construction. He continued this until his illness began in January 2019.

Over his lifetime, Greg had many hobbies and interest. His favorite hobby was fishing, and if you were to ask him, he would say he was the best fisherman around. Greg also enjoyed tending his vegetable garden each year. If you wanted a good biscuit or thin cornbread, Greg was the man. Watching nature shows on Georgia Public Television was a favorite of his. He would spend hours watching the shows during his illness. He also enjoyed playing the piano and getting others to sing with him at home or church. Greg was very knowledgeable about the bible and could located scripture with ease and was able to answer any question you had about scripture.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Garland Thompson and Bennie Lee Tapley Clark and a sister, Mary Charles Sikes.

He is survived by his brother, Charles Merrell Sikes II (Sue), his sisters Ora Clark and Tish Clark, nephews Jody Baggett, Clark Schrader, Charles M. Sikes III (Jennifer), Tony Sikes and Joshua Sikes, his nieces Candace Hansen (Adam), Brittany Bass (Alan) and Elizabeth Schrader. Ten great nieces and nephews, and one great great niece and one great great nephew also survive.

A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020 beginning at 11:00 AM at Clark-Joiner Cemetery.

Serving as pall bearers will be Jody Baggett, Clark Schrader, Charles M. Sikes III, Tony Sikes,  Joshua Baggett and Alan Bass.

Honorary pall bearers will be Tracey Butler, Edwin Avery, Wayne Lowery, Reggie Faulk, Henry Purvis, Tony Martin and Wesley Couey.

In lieu of flowers, Greg requested that donations be made to Oak Dale Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Kay Purvis 5159 Hwy 441 South, Dublin, GA 31021.  Please note this address has been corrected.
