Helen Janice P. Chamblee, age 81, of Dublin, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020.
Mrs. Chamblee was born in Laurens County on August 30, 1939, to the late Hardy Monroe “Roe” Porter and the late Earlene Pharis Porter. She was a 1957 graduate of Dublin High School and a 1960 graduate of the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at the Laurens County Hospital. She received certifications in ICU and RCU Nursing in 1979, and Psychiatric Nursing in 1989 at the V.A. Hospital. She was selected and received the Hands and Heart Award in 1998 at the V.A. Hospital, where her name was written in gold on a plaque that hangs there in the hallway. Mrs. Chamblee retired from the V.A. Hospital in 2002 with a total of 41 ½ years of nursing. She was of the Baptist faith and believed in humor.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chamblee was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Chamblee; sisters, Gerry Langston and Rowena Hensley; brothers, H.M. Porter and Autry Porter, and an infant brother and sister.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Phillips (Perry), of Milner; son, Tom Chamblee, of Dublin; brother, Sam Porter, of Columbus, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Dublin Memorial Garden. Mrs. Helen Boone and Mr. Sam Porter will conduct the services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
