Herman Lee Hall, Jr., affectionately known as "Poppy", passed away on June 6, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on December 28, 1942, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Herman Lee Hall, Sr. and Frankie Pritchett Hall, Herman was a man whose life was marked by devotion to his family, his faith, and his country.
Herman grew up in Garreta, where he would also go on to build his own family and legacy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shelia Hall, his sister Gail Hall, his cherished parents and his beloved grandson, Joshua Hall. Herman's love and legacy live on through his children, Tasha Wicker, Tonya Hall, and Bryan Hall (Lacey), all of whom inherited his strength and compassion. A revered patriarch, Herman was the proud Poppy to his grandchildren, Lyndsey Pharis (Cody), Landry Hall, and Eva Drew Hall, and his great-grandchild, Keller Pharis. His siblings, Elaine Hall, Edwin Hall, Ralph (Nita) Hall, Gene (Sheila) Hall, Jefferey Hall, and Keith (Pam) Hall, will fondly remember their brother's unwavering support and sense of humor.
Herman proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, a period in his life that instilled in him a profound sense of patriotism and duty. Following his military service, his entrepreneurial spirit began. Over the next several years he had various business ventures, leading him to become the owner and operator of Hall Pinestraw, a business that not only served the community but also embodied Herman's work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
A man of deep faith, Herman was a member of Pinehurst Drive Baptist Church and served as a song leader at several churches throughout his life. His resonant voice and heartfelt worship left an indelible impact on all who had the privilege to hear him. Herman's commitment to his faith extended beyond the walls of the church as he dedicated time and resources as a member of Gideon International, an organization that spreads the Christian message through the distribution of Bibles.
Those who knew Herman will remember a man who loved his family dearly. He was a loving husband, a nurturing father, a doting grandfather, and a caring brother. His interests were as vast as his heart; he enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and embracing new experiences. In his younger years, Herman farmed, a testament to his connection with the land and his appreciation for hard work and the simple pleasures of life.
