Hugh Collins Obituary

Hugh Collins was born September 7,1937 in Dexter, GA and ultimately married his high school sweetheart, Mary Sue Mullis.  The love affair, now 62 years strong, strengthened further this past Friday night, March 20, 2020, when Hugh moved on to heaven to wait in peace and strong body for Sue.

The impact he had over those 82 years on the lives around him cannot be measured.  After losing his father at an early age, Hugh took on the role of responsibility.  The eldest brother of four, he became the man soon after that we all love and admire.

He quickly learned the value of a smile and a confident firm hug.  A kind word and warm greeting became his calling card.  This role in early life taught him the importance of hard work, self sacrifice, and genuine charity.  These values carried him far as he nurtured a lifelong marriage and raised a family, including two sons who continue to learn from wisdom and example.  Sons who honor and cherish these lessons taught and lived by a man of faith, a loving husband, an example of comforting strength, and a friend to all- especially those in need and those downtrodden.

Hugh Collins was a success in so many ways.  Success in family, church, community and business. Hugh exemplified his leadership in key executive roles with the Toastmasters Club, his Church, Boy Scouts of America, Dublin Country Club, Children’s Miracle Network and especially in his business interest in International Dairy Queen, Southeast Store Owners Association and Dairy Queen Operators Association.  Most importantly his ownership of many individual DQ stores and franchises allowed his character and compassion to be imparted on thousands of first-time job seekers who, to this day, are leaders in their communities, their churches and their families.  Mr. Hugh, Dad, Mr. Collins, Hugh-Baby, Grandi, We Love You, We Miss You and always know WE THANK YOU
