Hugh Melton

Mason "Hugh" Melton, 89, of Dublin, Georgia, passed away on November 8, 2023 at his home.

He was a man of honor who loved his Lord and was cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him, especially his beloved wife, son, grand, and great-grandchildren. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie & Edna Jones Melton, and his siblings Ben, Denny, Sammy, and his twin sister Mary Sue Melton.

Hugh honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 until 1958. Hugh's dedication extended beyond his professional life, as he was a devout member of Charity Baptist Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith.

Hugh is survived by his devoted spouse of nearly 65 years, Betty Bracewell Melton, his loving son Mitchell Hugh Melton Sr., and his cherished grandchildren Mitchell Hugh Melton Jr (Cheyann), Kalie Ann Melton Philips (Ayin), Danielle Melton Dollar (Daniel), as well as his adored great-grandchildren Elizabeth Rae & Mason Lee Philips, Ella Mae, Lettie Ann, & Thea Rose Melton. He is also survived by his dear siblings Johnny Gordy, Magdalene "Maggie" Thames, Sally Dover (Truman), sister-in-law, Jane Holzmer (Don), sister-in-law, Hazel Bracewell and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Charity Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 11, 2023 with burial to follow at Bluewater Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jim Fennell and Rev. Tim Powell will officiate

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at the church, allowing loved ones to pay their respects and honor Hugh's memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions, in memory of Hugh, be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, a cause close to Hugh's heart.
