Ida Wynona Wells Obituary

Ida Wynona Wells, age 78, passed away peacefully January 11, 2020, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.  She was born February 27, 1941 in  Soperton Georgia to John D. and Mary Elizabeth Wells.

“Nona”, as she was known by those who loved and knew her, was the true picture of love.  Her kind and loving spirit guided her life.  Nona, graduated from Dublin High School in 1958 and received a full scholarship in Music, for her gifted skills with the trumpet to the University of Florida, but her love and strong affection for helping others guided her in the direction of nursing.   She enrolled in the Mercer School of Nursing for 2 years.  She would later gain her credentials as an LPN.  Her passion for making a difference, soon led her in the direction of treating those who were suffering from alcohol and drug abuse.  For those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with Nona, their lives would truly never be the same.  After many years of serving others, Nona medically retired as the Director of the Satilla Drug and Alcohol Crisis unit in Waycross Georgia. This path had truly suited her servant heart.   But the story was only beginning.  After a devastating car accident, God wasn’t finished with this true solider.  She, along with the help of her loving family, fought back and the joy that was received, if you were in her presence, is beyond what words can describe.  The verse James1:12 says “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him”.  Nona has received that crown and is in the presence of her Lord and Savior.  Nona was also a member of Moore Street Baptist Church.

Nona is survived by her sisters, Juanita W. Drew and Robert of Dublin Ga, and Ann Jenkins of Dublin Ga.  Her nieces and nephews, Dee Neville, Brenda Rowell, Don Jenkins Jr., Fred Jenkins, Donna Murry, Lisa Jenkins and Tom Evans.  A host of great nieces and nephews and many other family and loving friends.  To know Nona, was to love Nona.

Nona was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Mary Elizabeth Wells, her sister Jean W. Neville and brother-in-law Charles Donald Jenkins and nephew David J. Brack.

Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Please join us in celebrating her life Tuesday, January 14, 2019 at 2:00 pm, at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, Georgia.  Visitation will be Monday evening, January 13th at the Funeral Home between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.  Interment will follow the services on Tuesday at Harmony Baptist Church in Soperton Georgia.
