Iris Moye Lowery, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 8, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on October 22, 1941, in Cadwell, Georgia, Iris was the cherished daughter of the late E.L. Moye, Jr. and Doris Mullis Moye. Her life was a testament to the power of devotion, both to her family and to her community.
A brilliant student, Iris was the valedictorian of Cadwell High School's Class of 1958, a foundation that set the stage for her lifelong love of learning and teaching. It was in the hallowed halls of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she married the love of her life, Joseph L. Lowery, Jr., on July 25, 1958. Their union was blessed with 66 years of shared dreams and unwavering partnership.
Mrs. Lowery had a successful career working with the United States Postal Service. She began her employment in the post office in Cadwell and then served as the officer in charge at the post office in Davisboro. Iris also worked in the main post office in Dublin and retired while serving the court house square location.
Iris's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted husband, J.L., and their children: son, Greg (Kay) Lowery of Cadwell, and daughter, Krista (David) Hogan of Rentz. She was the proud grandmother to Will (Beth) Lowery of Cumming, Josh (Caitlin) Lowery of Dublin, Dylan (Kate) Hogan of Kathleen, Elissa (Dillan) Aycock of Athens, and Karly (Alex) Currie of Cadwell. Her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Jacob, A.J., Noah, Cooper, Hudson, and Kyler, brought her immeasurable joy.
Iris's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, she served her congregation with grace and dedication. She taught vacation bible school, led discipleship training, and her beautiful alto voice uplifted many during church services, weddings, and funerals. Her musical talents extended to the piano, which she played with passion and skill, bringing comfort and joy to all who listened.
Her home was a hub of warmth and hospitality, where Iris's talents as a great cook were on full display. She hosted countless family dinners, creating a nurturing environment that became the setting for cherished memories. The family camphouse was another place where Iris enjoyed spending time, surrounded by the laughter of her loved ones.
Iris's selfless nature was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a supportive wife, a nurturing mother, and an adoring grandmother. In every role she embraced, Iris exemplified the virtues of love and selflessness. Her unwavering support and devotion to her family were her greatest contributions, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jack Lee and Rev. Greg Lowery will officiate.
