Jackie Garbutt Obituary

Jackie Colter Garbutt, a cherished soul known for her loving nature and creative spirit, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at the age of 80.

Jackie was born on November 29, 1945, in Laurens County, Georgia, to the late Allix Ezra and Mary Lou Thompson Colter. She was also predeceased by her beloved son, Luke Garbutt, and her brother, William Colter.

Left to treasure her memory is her daughter, Charlie Ussery (Tim) of Dublin, and her son, Colter Garbutt of Rentz. Her legacy of love is further carried on by her granddaughter, Adele Ussery. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Russell (George) of Spartanburg, SC, and Sue Colter of Milledgeville, and several nieces and nephews. Jackie's role as a devoted and loving mother and grandmother was the cornerstone of her life, and her absence will be deeply felt by her family.

A respected art teacher and educator within the Laurens County School System, Jackie inspired countless students to explore their creativity and embrace their individuality. Her career was more than a profession; it was a testament to her belief in the transformative power of art. Jackie's own work as a folk artist was infused with her playful and joyful spirit, capturing the essence of her free-spirited nature. Her creative talents were matched only by her capacity to love, making her a treasured friend and mentor to many.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Art Dublin or to a charity of choice.
