James Andrew “Andy” Spivey, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Andy, as his friends called him, was born August 22, 1933, in Dublin GA to Ovid and Sally Dupree Spivey. The 5th of 6 children, he received his education at Rentz and Condor schools in Laurens County and earned his GED from The United States Army where he later served in The Korean Conflict. Andy was the founder of Spivey Trucking Company where he hauled from the east coast to the west coast but his love was hauling thru the mountains.
Andy had a love for farming and gardening and providing for his family as well as helping neighbors and friends in need. He was of the Baptist faith and attended both Union Baptist and Bethlehem Baptist Church. Andy is survived by his wife of 23 years, Betty Brown Spivey; a daughter, Sue (Joe) Ansley of Alabama; a son, Owen (Shela) Spivey of Rockledge; son-in-law, Seaborn Roberts of Swainsboro and a daughter in-law Leigh Ann Spivey of East Dublin; 8 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren, 3 step-daughters, and their spouses, and 2 step-granddaughters and their spouses.
He is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Winona Beacham Spivey; daughter, Nona Jo Spivey Roberts; son, James A. Spivey (Sonny), who was also owner and operator of Spivey Trucking Company; 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mike Mertz will officiate.
Grandsons, Drew Roberts, Matthew Roberts, James Roberts, Chris Spivey, Brett Spivey, Jayden Thompson, and William Ansley will serve as pallbearers.
