Jane Beall Obituary

Jane Simpson Beall passed away on January 8, 2021, at her home in Brewton, GA.

Mrs. Beall was born April 26, 1924, in Hardwick, GA to the late Roy Keith Simpson and Janie Ross Simpson (Jennings).

She graduated from Peabody High School, where she was First Soprano for the Georgia State College for Women Choir. At the United States involvement in World War II, Mrs. Beall left her studies at Georgia State College for Women to enroll as a nursing student at the Macon Hospital School of Nursing. During this time she sang for numerous USO programs for our troops. Mrs. Beall volunteered to spend the last six months of her nursing training as a nurse cadet at Kennedy General Army Hospital in Memphis. TN. She said the Army desperately needed nurses.

After graduating, she worked in the hospital clinic in Reidsville, GA. In 1945 she was united in love and marriage to Millard Fillmore Beall, Jr., and moved to the Brewton Community in Laurens County. She served as the first night supervisor of the Laurens County Hospital; served as a public health nurse in Laurens County, and later Health Nurse, Head Nurse, and Director with the Johnson County Health Department. She lovingly used her wonderful nursing skills to help friends and neighbors in her community. Mrs. Beall served as a volunteer Red Cross Nurse working in the surrounding region when disasters struck.

Mrs. Beall was a woman of deep and abiding faith. She was a member of Brewton Methodist Church where she was active with Vacation Bible School and United Methodist Women. Later she joined Brewton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in WMU. Mrs. Beall began a homebound ministry while a member at Brewton Baptist. She used her beautiful voice to serve the Lord in the church choir and received many requests to sing for weddings, funerals, and special events.

She was a current member of First United Methodist Church, Dublin, where she served as president of the Friendship Sunday School Class; was in United Methodist Women, and for many years sang in the Chancel Choir.

Mrs. Beall was Dublin/Laurens County Woman of the Year in 1990. She received State Resolution 244 from the Georgia State Senate in February 2011 commending her for her efficient, effective, unselfish dedicated service to her family and community.

She was an active leader in her community. She was a member of the Wrightsville Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow) John Laurens Chapter, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the William Sherrill Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century.

In the 1960’s, Mrs. Beall was a member of the Laurens County Library Board and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies.

She served as a PTA President and for numerous years as room mother for her four children. She loved gardening and grew beautiful roses. For many years she was a member of the Dublin Garden Club. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the local bridge club (RFD) she helped organize for 38 years. She was always invited to play with other bridge groups and did not miss an invitation to play if possible.

She was a wonderful cook and gracious hostess. She was always delighted to see her family and friends enjoy her meals and treats.

Mrs. Beall was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Millard Fillmore Beall Jr., and infant son, George F. Beall; an infant grandson, Michael R. Sweat; her parents, step-father, William P. Jennings, and sister, Ann Simpson Pounds.
