Jerry Watson, age 74, of Rentz, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Fairview Park Hospital after a courageous battle.
Mr. Watson was born in Laurens County on March 5, 1946, to the late Alvin Daniel Watson and the late Cora Upshaw Watson. Jerry retired from Doyle Taylor’s Well Company after many years of dedicated service. During his employment, Jerry drilled thousands of wells in the Middle Georgia area and found many lasting friendships with his customers. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and westerns, especially John Wayne.
In previous years, Jerry enjoyed riding his Goldwing Trike and was a former member of the Dublin and Warner Robins Chapters of the Goldwing Road Riders, Assoc. He was famous for the Watson Brunswick Stew that he learned from his mother. Jerry was raised to be a hard worker and he instilled this ethic in those close to him. He would not stay idle as he always had a list of projects to be done. He enjoyed being outdoors and took pride in his yard. One of his favorite pass times was riding his golf cart with his beloved dog, Max, to enjoy the beauty of his property.
Jerry never met a stranger. His infectious smile, genuine personality, and loving spirit were his trademarks. He loved his family dearly and his greatest joy was found in creating memories with them and his friends. Those memories will surely be treasured by all who were blessed to know and love him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Self.
Survivors include his wife, Melody Ann Watson, of Rentz; daughter, Kim Watson Walker (Paul “Butch”), of Rentz; son, Royce Watson (Marina), of Atlanta; granddaughters, Kayla Walker, of Rentz, Victoria Watson, of Atlanta, Laura Watson, of Winter Park, FL, and Kaitlyn Watson, of Atlanta; brother, Charles Watson (Rita), of Dublin; a host of nieces and nephews; mother of his children, Gail Taylor Teston, of Dublin, and his furry friend, Max.
