Jimmy Allen, age 78, of Dublin, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021, after an extended illness.
Mr. Allen was a native of Laurens County and born on October 18, 1942, to the late Julian Richard Allen and the late Nannie Gilbert Allen. Jimmy was the former owner and operator of Allen Brothers Electric & Plumbing Co. He served as the Laurens County Coroner from 1972-1988, and also as Chief Laurens Co. Civil Defense and Bailiff with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Department. Jimmy was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and with the Georgia Baptist Association Disaster Relief and Georgia Coroners Association.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his sons, Tommy Allen and Terry Allen; and siblings, M.G. Allen, Lillian Perry, Charles Allen, and Glenda Thigpen.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Clements Allen, of Dublin; sons, Richie (Melanie) Allen, of Augusta, and Kevin (Melinda) Allen, of Cochran; grandchildren, Austin (Mary) Allen, of Kingston Springs, TN, Mollie Allen of Augusta, Trey Allen of Augusta, Dusty Allen of Kingston Springs, TN, Justin Eubanks, of Louisiana, and Courtney (Ben) Johnson, of Newnan; sisters, Judy Vaughn, and Elizabeth Tarpley, both of Dublin; brothers, Luis Allen (Gayle), of Dallas, TX, and Virgil Allen (Barbara), of Dexter; sister-in-law, Carolyn Allen, of Dublin;
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at New Bethel Baptist Church with burial to follow in Minter Cemetery. Rev. Ben Edwards, Rev. Grady Mimbs, and Rev. Ken Rodgers will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Gil Allen, Darrell Dominy, Julian Allen, Deputy Elton Bivins, Roger Smith, and SGT Calvin Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Judge Jon Helton, Judge Donnie Gillis, Judge Jud Green, Judge Stan Smith, Bill Harrell, Stan Garrett, and the Court System Employees, Sheriff Larry Dean, and employees of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Department.
