Jimmy Jordan Kersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 7, 2025, in Dexter, GA. Jimmy was born on March 12, 1949, in Augusta, GA, to the late, Thomas Jordan and Annie Mae Henry Kersey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Barbara Rhodes Kersey, and his loving daughter, Leslie Swain. He is survived by his adoring grandchildren, Michael Watson (Melissa) of Dexter, Sierra Richardson (Shelton) of Soperton, and Ridge Swain of Soperton, three great-grandchildren, MJ Richardson, Zoe Hagan and Zachary Jett. His sisters, Darlene K. McDaniel of Kite and Sheila Clark of Swainsboro, and his brother, Randall Kersey of Swainsboro, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive.
A member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Jimmy cherished his church and it was the cornerstone of his life. Jimmy's work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his career as a State Fire Marshal and as an officer with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Department. Even after retirement, he still enjoyed the long lasting friendships of his colleagues.
An outdoorsman at heart, Jimmy found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. He was an avid deer hunter, relishing the quiet moments spent in the woods. Fishing was another of his passions, and Jimmy's skill in woodworking was not only a hobby but also a way to express his creativity and craftsmanship.
Above all, Jimmy loved his family. His grandchildren, in particular, were a source of immense pride and joy. He cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and sharing in their achievements.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Bob Blackwell and Rev. Keith Hall will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service hour at the church.
The deacons of Mt. Carmel will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 2605 Mt. Carmel Road, Dexter, GA 31019.
