Joan Freeman Hudson, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, in Hilton Head Island, SC.
Joan was born on September 6, 1933, in Dublin, GA, to the late Timothy Freeman and the late Carolyn Hobbs Freeman. Her formative years in Dublin were filled with the warmth of close-knit family ties and the joys of Southern living. She and her family grew up attending Jefferson Street Baptist Church where she often sang in the choir. Music was close to her heart and she would often sing at weddings and funerals.
After completing her education, Joan worked many years at the Youth Development Center in Milledgeville, GA, followed by her employment with the Georgia Department of Labor, in Dalton, where she retired after many years of devoted service.
In addition to Dublin, Joan was privileged to live in many areas including Milledgeville, Dalton, and finally retiring in Peachtree City, making many life-long friendships along the way.
She was an avid animal lover who dedicated her time and resources to supporting organizations specializing in their care.
Joan's heart found its match in Charles Everett Hudson, whom she was married to for 62 years, until his passing in 2013. Together, they built a family that continues to resonate through their daughter, Cherie Hudson (Stan) Byra of Hilton Head Island, SC. She is also survived by a sister, Patsy Freeman Sanders, of Birmingham AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Freeman and James Freeman.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, Georgia.
A private burial will be held at Northview Cemetery.
