John Passmore

John Sidney Passmore, 77, master barber and lifelong resident of Dublin, GA, died at home on December 24th, after a long battle with melanoma.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sallie Powell Passmore, and his daughters, Sydney P. Brantley, of Dublin, and Corie Elizabeth Passmore of Cary, North Carolina. Other survivors include his brother, Gene Passmore, and his sisters, Sarah Williams, Nancy Page and Deborah Miller, all of Dublin. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John was born in Dublin, GA, to John Benard and Sybil Ussery Passmore. He graduated from the Barber College at Macon Tech, in 1969, and the following day, opened his own barber shop, where he was employed until his retirement in 2004.

John was a veteran of the United States Army from 1964-1967. He spent much of his free time on his lifelong love of restoring Mercedes Benz. He was also an avid chess player and he started the first chess club in Dublin, GA, at his original barber shop, The Gentry, in the early 1970’s.

Graveside services will be held at Northview Cemetery in Dublin, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 2:00 pm, with our nephew, Reverend Robbie Passmore, officiating.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:45.
