Joyce Brown Chappell

Graveside services for Joyce Brown Chappell, age 85, of Dudley, will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, January 9, 2020, at Dublin Memorial Gardens.  Rev. Billy Daws will officiate.  The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home prior to the service from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM.

Mrs. Chappell was a member of Dudley Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving as church hostess in her earlier years.  She retired from Fairview Park Hospital as a Switch Board Operator.  Mrs. Chappell was a founding member of the Dudley Community Civic Club and a longtime member of the Dudley Supper Club and Dublin Elk’s Club. She served on the Oconee EMC Operation Round Up Board.  She was an avid Bridge player.  Mrs. Chappell was a homemaker known for her banana pudding and homemade biscuits.  She was a devoted wife and mother, loving her family deeply with a servant’s heart.

Mrs. Chappell was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mattie Couey Brown, and brothers, Jimmy Brown and Louie Brown. 

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John W.Chappell, Sr., of Dudley; sons, John W. (Becky) Chappell, Jr., Chris H. Chappell, both of Dudley; granddaughters, Ansley C. (Brian) Ellington, Brynne H. Chappell, both of Dudley; great grandsons, Chap T. Ellington, Beckett H. Ellington, both of Dudley; brother, Ray (Ann) Brown, of Dublin; sisters-in-law, Rosa S. Brown, Margie J. Chappell, both of Dublin; several nieces and nephews; and devoted friend and caregiver, Susie Pearl Hall.

Bo Claxton, Clift Crews, David Brown, Brian Ellington, Ricky Slaughter, and Jay Chappell will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Miller, Rubin Frazier, James Garrett, Larry Allen, Dr. Joe Chappell, Richard Chappell, Chris Cook, John Digby, and Jeff Cannon.

The family expresses special appreciation to the friends and caregivers of James Place and Southland Rehab.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome memorial contributions to Dudley Baptist Church, 1425 Second St., Dudley, GA  31022.
