Juan Jesus Fernandez Obituary

Juan Jesus (JJ) Fernandez passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Lynn Haven Health and Rehabilitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Dublin Georgia on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Wayne Durden will officiate.

GiGi was born on December 22, 1934 to the late Arturo Damian and Fidelina Andrea Perdomo Fernandez. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Arturo, Luis, and Circo, sisters, Ana Utreta, Araceli Guerra, Teresa Fernandez and Sara Fernandez.

GiGi came to the United States in 1957 to a trade school in Americus Georgia to further his education. Their he met his wife Joyce Walker. He and Joyce married on August 17, 1957. Having fled the communist country of Cuba, he was grateful to have lived in the United States. He told his children on numerous occasions that America was the greatest country in the world. He believed so passionately about freedom that he returned to Cuba in1961 to join the fight against communism in the Bay of Pigs. He returned to the United States where he and Joyce made the Bronx, NY their home. In 1966 Joyce and Gi Gi settled in Dublin where they reared their children.

GiGi will forever be remembered for being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of unquestionable character, integrity and work ethic which contributed to his fifty eight years of a successful business career. His sense of humor, love for his family, unselfish sacrifice and his faith will be a cherished legacy. His grandchildren will hold in their hearts his playful spirit and enjoyment he felt watching them with their lottery scratch offs and trips to the Minute Grill.

GIGI is survived by his wife of sixty six years Joyce Walker Fernandez, daughters, Terry (Scott) Walston and their children Daniel and Anna Kathryn, Nicole (Jason) Lyles and their children Hannah and Chloe, sons, Jaime (Lindsay) Fernandez and their children Isabel, Pax, Jack, and Sofia, and Anthony Fernandez, sister Trina (Gilberto) Garcia and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at, donors@stjude.org.
