Katharine Alice Clark Obituary

Ms. Katharine Alice Armstrong O’Brien Clark died on May 22, 2022 in Dublin, Georgia. Katharine was born April 26, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia to Huling Tower Armstrong and Katharine Orr Armstrong. Her parents preceded her in death.

 

 Katharine spent her childhood in Brunswick, Georgia. She graduated from Glynn Academy in 1959.  She attended Emory University in Decatur, Georgia, earning both the B.A. and M.A. degrees in Political Science. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.While at Emory she met and married Dennis A. O’Brien, the father of her two sons, Dennis Jr. and Richard.

 

Katharine’s professional career began as a public-school teacher. Later Katharine became Director of the Talking Books Center with the Oconee Regional Library in Dublin, before retiring.

 

 Katharine was active throughout her life: She was a member of the Women’s Study Club, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia.  She was a faithful member and an ordained Ruling Elder in the Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), also in Dublin. She was an avid bridge player and bird watcher. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing other cultures.  Her travels spanned six continents.  In addition, she had a passion for genealogical research. 

  

Katharine was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Clark.  She is survived by her sons Dennis A. O’Brien, Jr. (Krista) of Savannah, Georgia, and their two children, Reid and Caroline; and Richard A. O’Brien (Carlota) of Cary, North Carolina, and their sons Frederick and Glenn.  She is also survived by her brother Richard F. Armstrong (Martha) of St. Simons Island, Georgia; her niece Meredith A. Odegard (Derek) of Atlanta, Georgia and their children Fielder and Abigail; also, her dear friend Johann Manning, M.D. of Dublin, Georgia.  In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) at 511 Bellevue Avenue, Dublin, Georgia, 31021.


The graveside service for Ms. Clark will be held Friday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery at 1071 Riverside Drive in Macon.  Immediately following the service, family and friends will gather for a repast at Hotel Forty-Five on 401 Cotton Avenue in Macon.
