H. Keith Fields, age 75, of East Dublin, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Fields was born August 4, 1947 in McRae, Georgia; he was preceded in death by his parents, the late James Forrest Fields, Sr. and Hazel Anderson Fields; a step-son, Daniel Thrasher; a grandson, Nathaniel Warren and a nephew, Chad Fields.
Keith was a talented rhythm guitar player and singer who could play and sing any genre of music. His favorite was bluegrass and southern gospel. In the early 1970’s, he played professionally with a group of his friends in the bluegrass band, Marshgrass. He played with many groups over the years with the last group being the Brewton Baptist Church band. Because of the difference in the age of the band members, Judy affectionately referred to them as Youth, Chick and the Old Man Band. He had a great passion for Martin guitars.
His other vocations including the management of several businesses including a record pressing company in Atlanta and a sheltered workshop at the Oconee Center in Milledgeville, where he met Judy. Together, they owned Taylor Made Management Services, an agency that provided services to Early Intervention (Babies Can’t Wait). He served as CFO and Director of that agency for 14 years until they closed the agency in 2007. He was appointed by Gov. Roy Barnes to the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Early Intervention in 2002 and served until 2007. He began working a Lighthouse Adult Daycare Center in Dublin in 2009 and retired in 2018. Following his retirement, he served as President on the Lighthouse Board of Directors and remained in that position until his death.
He loved his family and enjoyed playing music and singing for them. He also enjoyed “advising” both the children and the grandchildren, even if they weren’t seeking it. His absence will leave a great void in our lives but we have many great memories to cherish.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Taylor Fields of East Dublin; a brother, James F. (Brenda) Fields, Jr. of McRae; a step-son, Landry (Brandi) Donaldson of Moundville, AL; a step-daughter, Amber (Daniel) Patton of Hinesville; grandchildren, Taylor Thrasher, Hunter Thrasher, Shelby Ann Thrasher, Jenna Warren (their mother, Jennifer (Patrick) Warren), Jordan Lee, Nathaniel Patton and A.J. Patton.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 5th at Brewton Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Tanner and Rev. Kenny Green officiating.
Pallbearers will be Landry Donaldson, Hunter Thrasher, Jeffrey Williams, Calvin Halcomb, Lonnie Fields and Larry Thigpen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Young, Mack Flemister, the staff of Lighthouse Adult Daycare Staff (past & present) and the choir and band members of Brewton Baptist Church.
Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville, AL with Mr. David Currie officiating. Keith’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
