Paul “Kenny” Owens, known affectionately as Kenny, passed away on October 31, 2023, in Macon, Georgia. Born on September 23, 1948, in Cartersville, Georgia, to the late Henry Kennon Owens Jr. and Laverne Hatfield Owens, Kenny lived a fulfilling life characterized by love, faith, and selflessness.
Kenny was a man of service, having served in the Army National Guard, a testament to his deep love for his country. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry from the University of Georgia and was a huge “DAWG” fan. His passion for nature was evident through his forestry business, where he spent countless hours working in the woods, an environment he greatly cherished. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his commitment to his profession earned him the professional nicknames "Round Man" and "Teddy Bear".
Kenny was an active member of the Poplar Springs North Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving as a Deacon and fulfilling many essential roles as needed. His faith was unwavering, and he demonstrated this through his dedication to his church and community. His faith-filled life was an inspiration to all who knew him.
An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Kenny's love for fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling was well-known among his friends and family. His love for the mountains was unparalleled, often escaping to their tranquility whenever he could. Known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and "Fuzz" by childhood friends, Kenny was a man of many names, each reflecting the different roles he played in the lives of those he touched.
Kenny was predeceased by his wives, Debbie Owens and Hope Owens, his parents, Henry Kennon Owens Jr. and Laverne Hatfield Owens, and his great-nephew, Leroy Cole.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion with his daughter, Alicia Owens Orr (Erik) of Dublin; son, Greyson Owens (Lauren) of Dublin; stepson, Jake Flanders of Dublin. His grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Cardin, Sam, Grey, Henry, and Abe, will forever remember their "Papa". Kenny is also survived by his sister, Marta Owens of Cartersville, GA; nieces and nephew, Mandi Smith, Jud Smith, and Mollie Cole (Trent), several great-nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, "Buck" Owens.
Funeral services for Kenny will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church Family Life Center with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Wes Pinkley will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Robert Morris, Jerry Mathison, Ernie Palmer, Norris Westbrook, Scott Panter, and Joe Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Albritton, Archie Heath, and Chris Crawford.
