Larry Sheppard Boyd, age, 81, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2025, in Dublin, Georgia. Born on August 28, 1943, in Allendale, South Carolina, Larry was a man whose life was characterized by kindness, friendliness, and love.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Loryea Lee and Romie Sheppard Boyd, and his cherished daughter, Sherrie Boyd. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Kight Boyd of Dublin, and his former wife and mother of his three children, Barbara I. Boyd. His memory will be forever cherished by his daughters, Kimberly B. Durham (John) of McDonough and Cindy B. Lewis (Michael) of St. Simons Island; his brother, Edward L. Boyd (Sally) of Beaufort, SC; his step-children, Angie Bennett of Swainsboro and Greg Bennett of Swainsboro; his beloved grandchildren, Faith Durham, McKenzie Durham Bullard, Jackson Lewis, Cody Bennett, and Oliver Bennett; his great-grandchildren, Johnny Bennett and Ellie Jo Bennett; and niece, Casey B. Gelvin.
Larry's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his community and country. He proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard for 38 years, a testament to his dedication and patriotism. His leadership skills and passion for mentoring youth were evident in his role as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 68, where he guided many young men on their path to becoming responsible and caring adults. He worked 28 years in the textile industry at JP Stevens, and was co-owner of Summer Willow Assisted Living in Swainsboro.
A man of faith, Larry was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and later attended Charity Baptist Church, where he found solace and fellowship. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and guidance throughout his journey.
Larry's interests and passions were a reflection of his vibrant personality. An avid sports fan, he was a fervent supporter of the South Carolina Gamecocks and held a secondary allegiance to the Georgia Bulldogs. His impeccable sense of style was apparent to all who knew him, as he was always "dressed to a tee". Westerns were a source of great enjoyment for Larry, and he could often be found watching his favorite films. Larry's presence was a gift to those who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his absence will be deeply felt by many.
Services for Mr. Boyd will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Charity Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Garden. Rev. Tim Powell and Rev. Billy Glosson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until the service hour at the church.
Pallbearers will be John Durham, Michael Lewis, Greg Bennett, Kenneth Kight, Kelly Canady, and Hugh Kight.
