Lester (L.E.) Farr, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Lester Ernest (L.E.) Farr, Jr., age 78, of Cadwell, passed away on September 24, 2024 in Macon, Georgia.

Mr. Farr was born September 22, 1946, in Tifton, GA to the late Lester Ernest, Sr. and Allene Goggans Farr. He graduated as an honor graduate from Laurens High School in 1964. He went on to receive an associate degree at Middle Georgia College and a bachelors degree in education from Georgia Southern University. After college he began working with Bonaire Elementary School as a physical education teacher. After a brief career in education, Mr. Farr made a career change and became an epidemiologist with the Laurens County Health Department. Gaining many years of experience in this career led him to working with the South Central District Health Departments.

Mr. Farr married his high school sweetheart on September 7, 1968. He and his wife, Gail, just recently celebrated their fifty-sixth anniversary. Mr. Farr was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cadwell, GA, which he attended the majority of his life. He served faithfully in various capacities within the church, which included both serving as deacon and teaching Sunday school for several years.

L.E. was very athletic in his youth and adulthood. He participated in track and field, basketball, and baseball while in high school. He also went on to play shortstop for Middle Georgia College. One of his favorite past times as an adult was playing a round golf with his friends. One of the highlights of Mr. Farr’s life was attending The Masters Tournament every year. He later passed his love of sports and some of his athletic skills onto his children. He was well known for always having a joke to tell, which was slid in at the appropriate time and related to the topic of the conversation. His church sometimes had a “holy humor” event in which Mr. Farr and his son would share favorite jokes with their church family.

Mr. Farr was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His love for his family was very evident in how he lit up when telling others about his family and in how he provided for his family. He also was very close to both his siblings, in-laws, and their families. They have always been faithful in helping and serving each other in the good times and in times of need.

Mr. Farr was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Ernest, Sr. and Allene Goggans Farr, and his son, Brian Lester Farr.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Gail Fordham Farr; daughter, April (Darren) Talley of Rentz; grandson, Josiah Talley of Rentz; sister, Regina (Bennie) Daniel of Rentz; brother, Danny (Becca) Farr of Marietta; sister-in-laws, Waylene Rowe of Dublin, and Karen (Sammy) Martin of Rentz; brother-in-law, Alan Fordham of Sarasota, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.

A service celebrating Mr. Farr's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 30th at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Darren Talley and Rev. Greg Lowery will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Kenny Stewart, Rob Powell, Chad Sapp, Larry Brewer, Danny Evans, and Clifton Smith will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be The Deacons of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
