Lois Woodard Hughes, age 78, of Soperton, Georgia, formerly of Dublin, Georgia passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Thursday, October 27th after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Belle Glade, Florida on July 24, 1944, to the late William R. Woodard and the late Nettie Lou (Powell) Woodard. She later moved back with her family to Georgia. She married the love of her life, William (Bill) Hughes of Hazlehurst, Georgia on July 1, 1964.
Mrs. Lois was a woman of strong faith and she loved her family and friends wholeheartedly. She always had a smile on her face even in her final days. She was best known for her quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Alicia (Sissy) Diane Hughes, grandson, Daniel Tyler Cook, brothers Errol Woodard, Robert (Bobby) Woodard, Raymond Woodard, and sister Patricia Harrison.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 58 years, William (Bill) Hughes, son Ken (Kay) Hughes of Soperton, daughter Kim (Ryan) Cook of Dublin, Grandsons Riley Cook, Bailey Cook, Josh Smith, and Brock (Kristy) Smith. Sister Peggy (James) Stokes, Sister-in-laws Margaret Woodard, Mae Hughes, Betty Hughes, Leatha Hughes, Patricia Allen, Elsie Hughes. Great-Grandchildren Ashton, Coleman & Jacob Smith, and a host of nieces and nephews. Faithful fur companion, Bella.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Marie Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service hour on Saturday at the funeral home. They will also receive friends at the home of Ryan & Kim Cook: at 228 Hunters Way, Dublin, Georgia (Walke Ridge Subdivision).
Pallbearers will be Darrell Stokes, Josh Smith, Brock Smith, Mike Woodard, Bill Woodard, and Buddy Woodard.
