Lori Michelle Mendez Melton, known affectionately as Lori to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on November 16, 1970, in Orange County, California, Lori's life was a testament to her loving and selfless nature, which touched the lives of all who knew her.
Lori was a proud graduate of El Camino High School, where she showcased her spirit and teamwork as a member of the color guard. Her commitment to her community was evident through her active membership at Buckhorn Methodist Church, where she practiced her Christian faith with devotion and grace.
Throughout her life, Lori's love for the outdoors was unmistakable. She found joy in camping and embraced every opportunity to spend time in nature. Her adventurous spirit was matched only by her desire to help anyone in need, a quality that defined her as a person.
Lori's capacity for love was boundless, especially when it came to her family. She was a loving mother to her son, John M. Minter, and daughter, Hailey Minter. Her role as a grandmother was one she cherished deeply, showering her grandchildren, Rowdy Minter, Marley Newsome, Makayla Newsome, and Marco John Roger Newsome, with affection and wisdom. Though she experienced the loss of her mother, Linda Woten Michalk, her daughter, Natalie Marie Minter, her stepfather, Roger Michalk, and her companion, Ronald Newsome, Lori's strength and resilience were sources of inspiration to those around her. Her family circle included her stepson, Daniel Newsome (Rebecca), her father, Louis Mendez, her sister, Susan Hilton, her brother, Louis Mendez Jr., and her uncle, Robert Woten. The father of her children, John D. Minter, remained an integral part of her life's journey. Lori's friendships were a reflection of her loving nature. Her best friends, Terri Watson and Roberta Martinolich, stood by her side through thick and thin, sharing countless memories that will be cherished forever.
Described by those who knew her as loving, thoughtful, and selfless, Lori's legacy is one of kindness and generosity. Her ability to see the best in people and to offer a helping hand without hesitation made her a beacon of light in her community. As we bid farewell to Lori Michelle Mendez Melton, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. Her spirit will continue to guide and comfort us, just as the memories of her unwavering love will remain in our hearts forever.
Services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 2PM in the Mary Whitaker Townsend Memorial Chapel. Rev. Grady Mimbs will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens.
