Funeral services for Mrs. Maria McRae Crooke, age 65, will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Terry Powell, Rev. Patrick Owens, and Dr. Darrell Paulk will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Cory Ellis, Reid Ellis, Kyle Powell, Anthony Jones, Tyler Crooke, and James Jackson.
The GLO Retirement Group, co-workers at Oconee Fall Line Technical College, and Maria’s childhood friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Crooke was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia on August 6, 1958 to the late Dr. Daniel H. McRae and the late Dorothy Stewart McRae. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern, obtaining her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in psychology. She worked at Community Service Board of Middle Georgia as well as Oconee Fall Line Technical College as a psychology / sociology teacher. She enjoyed arts and crafts, making jewelry, and her beloved dogs. She passed away in her home Friday, December 8, 2023.
She is survived by her beloved husband, David Crooke of Dublin; daughter, Leah Crooke of Dublin; sister, Suzanne McRae Powell (Terry) of Andalusia, AL; niece, Katelyn Ellis (Cory) of Opp, AL; nephew, Kyle Powell (Ashley) of Auburn, AL; niece, Lauren Mertins Jones (Anthony) of Belmont, NC; sister-in-law, Gene Mertins (Richard) of Augusta, GA; brother-in-law, Marion Crooke (Lynda) of Sharpsburg, GA; nephew, Tyler Crooke of Sharpsburg, GA; niece, Julie Crooke Stone of Newnan, GA; and several grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Fairview Park Hospital, ICU staff, Dr. Andy Williamson, Dr. Casey Morris, and the staff of Pulmonary, Sleep, Asthma, and Allergy Center of Dublin, Georgia.
