Martha Ann Titshaw Bobbitt was born in Gainesville, Georgia on November 2, 1929, to parents, Dr. Homer Scott Titshaw, MD, and Nanie Maude Hartley Titshaw.  A 1946 graduate of Gainesville High School, Martha attended the University of Tennessee for one year and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950 with a B.S. in Home Economics.  She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. The University of Georgia was where she met her Pi Kappa Alpha sweetheart and future husband, Thomas Clarence Bobbitt, Jr.  They were married from 1950 – 1986, upon his passing.

Martha received her teacher’s certificate in 1974 and a Master of Education in 1977 from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia. She taught reading at Central Elementary School from 1974 – 1990 while spreading her love of reading to children.

Mrs. Bobbitt was a member of PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators), where she became the 13th District Director.  Martha was appointed to serve as a member of the State of Georgia Professional Practices Commission.

Martha joined First Baptist Church, Dublin in 1960.  Through the years, she was a devoted member of the Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir, served on the Finance and Personnel Committees, and was a member of the Townsend (now Winsome) Sunday School Class. Martha cherished her fun times and many adventures with the original “Golden Girls”.

Martha was a member of the Bellevue Garden Club, Girls Cotillion, Dublin Service League, and Dublin-Laurens Leadership.  She delivered meals to shut-ins for Meals on Wheels, was a member of Dublin Boot Scooters Line Dancing, served on the Salvation Army Board, and received an honorary award for her commitment to the organization.  Martha was also a member of the Forest Landowners Association.

Martha enjoyed traveling and loved learning.  Her travels through the years included several trips throughout the United States as well as to several countries in Europe and an Alaskan cruise.

She is survived by her two children: son, Thomas (Tommy) Clarence Bobbitt, III (Karen) of Dublin; daughter, Nancy Marie Bobbitt of Evans, GA; and grandson, Thomas James Bobbitt (the highlight of her life was becoming his Mema) of Dublin.  She is preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Homer Titshaw, Jr.; sisters, Rubye Titshaw Payne and Frances Titshaw Thompson.

Pallbearers will be nephews Scott Titshaw III and Steve Thompson, along with Frank Adams, Jeff Cannon, Jay Chappell, Dr. Martin Christian, Eddie Smith, and Jay Studstill.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Winsome Sunday School Class, Boot Scooters Line Dancers, and the Golden Girls.

The family thanks Scott Health Rehabilitation’s staff and Willie Ruth Gillis for their tremendous care and compassion given to Martha these past three years.
