Mary Sue (Shirley) Burkett

Mary Sue Burkett, age 77, of Dublin, Ga. went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2019.

Known to her patients as Ms. Mary, she was a hygienist for 50 years, providing dental care to hundreds in Dublin and Laurens County.  She was a member of Pine Forest U.M.C., and was active for many years in the Ben F. Williams Sunday School class, the Chancel Choir, and the Susanna Wesley UMW Circle. She was preceded in death by her father, Victor Shirley; mother, Othella Brock Cochran, and infant son, Bret Riggs.

Mrs. Burkett is survived by her husband of 33 years, Noah C. Burkett, son Damon R. (Jody) Riggs of Chattanooga, Tenn., daughter Shannon Riggs Stuckey of Metter, Ga., son Tyler Haden (Jaime) Riggs of Metter, Ga., and step children she happily claimed as her own Linda (Fritz) Hutchinson of Atlanta, Ga., Ann (Russell) Bush of Atlanta, Ga., and Cliff (Kaye) Burkett of Ellijay, Ga. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda McCord of Foley, AL, Peggy Brewer (Richard) of Auburn, AL, and Vickie Williamson (Andy) of Dublin, Ga, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Burkett will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Northview Cemetery following the service. Dr. Joel Dent and Rev. Foy Williamson will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Liston Bethea, Kelly Canady, Richard Brewer, Dr. Derrick Hampton, Mark Williamson, Dr. Andy Williamson, Cliff Burkett, and Fritz Hutchinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Specialist Heath Stuckey, and Russell Bush.
