Mary Whitaker Townsend

Mary Whitaker Townsend, 97, passed away early Saturday, March 11, 2023, at her home.

Mary was the daughter of the late James Lee Whitaker and Janie Arde White Whitaker. 

She was a  member of Montrose Baptist Church early In life and for most of her life the First Baptist Church of Dublin.

Mrs. Townsend was a vital part of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home for many years, where she was a Funeral Director and part owner, serving along with her husband and family. She loved interacting with visitors and families at the funeral home where she was affectionately known as Miss Mary.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Townsend, Sr., siblings, James White Whitaker, Janet Whitaker King, and Carolyn Whitaker Tankersley.

Survivors include her children, Deborah (Mike) Vestal, and Jim (Camille) Townsend; grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Vestal, and Matthew (Kristen) Vestal; great grandchildren, Sam Vestal, Owen Vestal, Mary Katelyn Vestal, Caroline Vestal, Jack Vestal, Will Vestal, and Luke Vestal, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her family would like to recognize and thank her personal caregivers, Linda Coney, Bernice Odum, Chathamae Clark, and the staff of Agape Hospice

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Townsend 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dr. Cliff Morris and Dr. Darrell Paulk will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Dublin, Montrose Baptist Church or to the Gideons International.
