Melba Lucy Kent Thomas, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 92 in Dublin. Born May 31, 1933, in Carrollton, she was a beacon of warmth and generosity throughout her life.
Melba was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, William Olaf "Billy" Thomas, her cherished daughter, Hope Lynn Thomas, her parents, James Claude Kent and Fannie Lucy Lee Kent, and her siblings, J.C. Kent, Paul Kent, Lillian Long, Ray Kent, and Jimmi Nell Dukes.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her surviving family, including her daughters, Nancy (Kenny) Tomlinson and Kandy (Donny) Riner; her grandchildren, Brandy (Spence) Mullis, Misty (Brian) Smith, Taylor (Matt) Taylor, and Zachery (Amy) Daniel; and her great-grandchildren, Beau (Taylor) Mullis, Nan Marie Mullis, Ava Smith, Boone Smith, Everett Taylor, Ellis Taylor, Hewitt Taylor, Isla Mae Daniel, and Eleanor Daniel. Melba also shared her life with several bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.
Dedicated to her community, Melba served the Laurens County School System with distinction for over 30 years. Her roles as a paraprofessional, bus driver, and substitute teacher were a testament to her commitment to the well-being and education of children. Even in her eighties, Melba's unwavering energy and passion for her work shone through until her well-deserved retirement.
A stalwart member of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church, Melba's faith was an integral part of her life. Her selfless nature was evident in everything she did, from her love of children to her enjoyment of yard work, woodworking, and fishing. Melba's green thumb was no secret to those who admired her beautiful daylilies, and her skillful hands were often busy with various projects that benefited not only her family but also her neighbors and friends.
The weekly Saturday night fish fry’s hosted by Melba became a cherished tradition, bringing together family and friends in celebration of togetherness and good food. Melba's generosity knew no bounds, and her home was always open to those in need of a meal, a laugh, or a listening ear.
Melba will be remembered as a woman who was as handy with a hammer as she was with a frying pan. Her selfless acts of kindness, generosity, and the joy she brought to others will be her lasting imprint on the world. Her life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the lives of many.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 9, 2025 at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. James Hughes and Rev. Wes Pinkney will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Spence Mullis, Brian Smith, Matt Taylor, Zachery Daniel, Beau Mullis and Boone Smith.
