Mrs. Nelda S. Knight, 85, passed away June 3, 2025, at her home in Dexter, Georgia. She loved her family, friends, pets, plants, and community with all her heart and those she loved knew it.
Mrs. Knight was born on August 25, 1939, in southwestern Laurens County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Emmett D. Smith and Annie Maude Williams Smith; a sister, Nellie Smith Hobbs; a brother, Jimmy R. Smith; and her husband, the late D.W. (Bill) Knight, Jr.
Mrs. Knight was a graduate of Cadwell High School and the National School of Business. She was very active in the Laurens County Community with decades of service in the Fairview Park Hospital Auxiliary, receiving the Frist Humanitarian Award several years. She was an active community volunteer in the Heart of Georgia United Way, Dublin-Laurens St. Patrick’s Festival, and served on the Board of Directors for The Lighthouse Adult Day Care Center for Alzheimer’s patients. She was a lifelong member of Cadwell Baptist Church but upon moving to Dexter attended Dexter Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.
She is survived by her son, Hal Monroe (Tammy); two grandsons, Alex Monroe and Caleb Monroe (Taylor); and three great-grandsons, Mason, Easton, and Carter Monroe.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Dexter Baptist Church with Reverend Jeremiah Sluss and Reverend Calvin Halcomb officiating. The family will greet friends at the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
