Newton Tryon Reynolds, Jr., affectionately known as Tryon, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on May 3, 1948, in Millen, Georgia, he was the cherished son of the late Newton Tryon Reynolds, Sr., and Nan Pierce Reynolds. Tryon's life was a testament to his loving nature, his dedication to education, and his passion for life's many joys.
Tryon is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Reynolds, who describes him as the best dance partner she ever had. His legacy continues through his children, Jeff (Erin) Reynolds of Tampa, FL, and Jennifer (Dwayne) Mathis of Deland, FL. He was a proud grandfather to Millen Reynolds, Pierce Reynolds, Joe (Faith) White, Brittany (Bailey) Ferrell, and D'Anna Mathis (Cody Sandefur), and a doting great-grandfather to Adalyn Jo White, Brinlee Nicole White, Joe Ferrell, Rosemary Sandefur, and Cyprus Sandefur.
A man of many talents and interests, Tryon was an accomplished musician and a talented dancer whose rhythm and grace on the dance floor were matched only by his warmth and humor. An avid golfer, he was a familiar face at the Green Acres Golf Course and Dublin Country Club, where he shared his love for the game with friends and family. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi and a former state vice president with FFA. His commitment to his faith was evident through his active membership at First Baptist Church of Dublin where he taught adult Sunday School for many years.
Tryon's professional life was marked by his profound impact on education. He began his career in Chauncey before coming to East Laurens High School in 1974. As a much-loved principal and former head coach, he started the school's golf team and became known for treating all the kids throughout his career as if they were his own. His retirement marked the end of a distinguished career as an educator, but his influence on the lives of countless students and colleagues remains indelible.
Those who knew Tryon will remember him for his loving and friendly nature. His sense of humor brought laughter to any room, and his presence was a source of comfort and encouragement. He had a unique ability to connect with people, going out of his way to help others whenever he could. Tryon's kindness and generosity of spirit made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond.
